Philosophy of Education

According to the 'Education Philosophy' survey I have a Reconstructionism/Critical Theory approach to education:
Reconstructionism/Critical Theory-
Social reconstructionists advocate that schools should take the lead to reconstruct society in order to create a better world. Schools have more than a responsibility to transmit knowledge, they have the mission to transform society as well. Reconstructionists use critical thinking skills, inquiry, question-asking, and the taking of action as teaching strategies. Students learn to handle controversy and to recognize multiple perspectives.

I believe this theory closely defines my philosophy on education. I believe that education should be used to develop students into well rounded individuals, with the ability to see and accept different perspectives and utilize that to have a positive impact.
My Philosophy of Education:
As a teacher it will be my goal and objective to provide my students with a well rounded education, as well as the skills necessary to succeed outside of the academic realm. To achieve my goal I will establish a personal and professional relationship with all my students. When you take the time to get to know your students on a personal level they feel respected and cared for and in turn, will show you the same respect. Also, as a teacher I will be a role model for students. Being a role model will allow me to positively impact students' lives. As a teacher you have the opportunity to help students evolve into well rounded individuals and succeed in their own right. Seeing your students succeed is the single greatest benefit of being a teacher, and I cannot wait to experience that.
“Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education.”
